Maut tu ek kavita hai

Maut tu ek kavita hai ..
mujhase ek kavita ka vaadaa hai milegi mujhako ..

dubati nabzon mein jab dard ko neend aane lage
zard saa cheharaa liye chaand ufak tak pahunche

Death you are a poem..
a poem has made pact with me that I shall meet her ..

when drowning pulse will bring on painful sleep
when Moon carrying her yellow face will reach horizon
when days still in water and night close to shore
there is not yet darkness, neither light, not night not day
when body is gone and soul still breaths.

a poem has made pact with me that I shall meet her ..

one of the best poems i've ever listened to.. each word that that strikes a string in deepest nook of your soul.. the precipice of indiann poetry.. the most self explainatory.. n a poem that makes you realize that DEATH is as mysterious and philosophical as LIFE...

Translation of last line is not perfect, I think Gulzar meant that,

When body(bodily attachments) is no more, the soul starts breathing.
Meaning soul gets liberated.

Last line
The drowning soul starts breathing as the body gasps for breath.
